How to Change Maytag Refrigerator Water Filter
So you’ve determined the time has come to change the filter. Now what? We’ll show you how to change Maytag refrigerator water filters like a boss. Follow these instructions according to your filter type.
Upper Right Corner Filter
- Locate the filter in the top right corner inside the fridge.
- For the outward-facing tab – push the tab and pull the cover down. For the bottom tab – pull forward on the small cover lever and then pull the cover down.
- Twist filter counterclockwise (to the left) and pull. Note: If this is the first filter installation, remove the cap inside the filter opening by turning it counterclockwise and pulling it out.
- Line up the new filter with the grooves, insert and turn clockwise.
- Push up on the filter to lock it in place.
- Run 4 gallons of water through the line and discard the water to flush the new filter before usage.

Base Grille Filter
- Locate the filter in the front of the base grille.
- Twist the cap counterclockwise until the handle is verticle and pull straight out.
- Remove the filter cap and set it aside.
- Discard the old filter.
- Open the new filter, remove the protective coverings, and slide the cap onto the new filter.
- Inset the new filter by aligning the cap handle vertically and push the filter in completely.
- Rotate the filter cap clockwise until it is horizontal to lock it in place.
- Run 4 gallons of water through the line and discard the water to flush the new filter before usage.
